Lend a Hand. Land a Job.

Sometimes, going to work full-time after relocation isn’t an option for a variety of reasons, but once you’re settled into your new home, volunteering may be appealing.

Here are some benefits:

Volunteering allows you to immerse yourself in your new community, spending time supporting a cause you believe in, and providing a sense of purpose.

If managing your schedule is an issue, the time you spend in volunteer work can be flexible. Conversely, if you want to establish a routine, it’s often possible to create set hours.

Change can be difficult, and boredom can wreak havoc for individuals who are predisposed to depression. Doing something good for others is good medicine.

Volunteering is a great way to try out a new line of work and develop new skills. If you’ve toyed with a career change, find an application of your interests in the non-profit world, or possibly as an intern in a company you’ve been eyeing.

Few networking experiences are better than meeting people through voluntarism. Many corporations encourage their management team to support communities through board service. Meeting professionals who may be posed to hire those who have demonstrated worth through their volunteer contributions can be quite beneficial and may lead to employment.
